Black Birds

Caged bird,
Feathers black
Smooth as silk
Unable to fly free,
Caged; with no guilt
A dream of freedom
In God's blue haven
May only be a dream,
When doves mock the ravens

Slavery is a foundational part of America. This is a reflection of the slaves' hope of freedom.
