Birthsong

sing,
oh you birds on a wing
and a prayer
a serpent's lair

talk,
oh you parrots of doubt
doubting all
as you stumble and fall

cry,
oh you babes in the night
suckling lips
in cuddling arm grips

rise,
oh you Son of the morn
with a flaming head
from earthen mist bed

hark,
oh you angels that sing
of a babe in a manger
amidst a world
of murderous danger

sing,
oh you choirs below
of a Lamb on a throne
amidst witnesses prone
