Birthday
The flame dances gently
to the rhythm of my slow breath,
as my finger glides past
luscious fluffy flowers
and between my longing lips.
The cloud I place upon my tongue
melts quickly
leaving a lingering sweetness,
and beautiful thoughts of you.
As I trace your name in the icing
I can see the twinkle in your eyes.
I can feel the warmth of your hug,
your head upon my shoulder,
while the music of your laughter fills my ears.
One burning candle,
a celebration of you.
Ice cream and cake
blanketed in whipped topping,
your favorite,
with one burning candle.
Soon, well wishes from those who love you
will fill your day
and make you smile
and, perhaps, bring a tear or two.
I inhale deeply
sighing a puff of air,
and with sincere desire I make this wish.
Health I wish for you,
for you are so fragile,
yet so very strong,
peace to replace the worries
in your compassionate heart,
but most of all,
happiness to fill
each moment of your life
with your beautiful smile.
I watch as the flame flutters
on that one burning candle,
and flickers out.
