Bird Winter Bird

One bird didn't head south. It found a wee crack in the mailbox and is riding winter out. It gets two callers a day. Startled-it explodes from its plastic nest. On Sunday we all take a rest. For three straight days there were no sign of life. Maybe it was lonesome and hooked up with the flock. Feathers and brown grass dangle from my icy winter box.

As a lover of birds and evocative free verse, and poems about birds, I’m a little in love with this piece. xomo
