Biological Havoc

Important to note the date! © Ben Burton 4-17-1961 Though nature is a miracle of fragrance, sound, and sight What can compare with tadpoles turning into butterflies To think that dainty creature with its wings in flurried flight Was once a polly-wolly-doodle all the day and night Now see the creepy caterpillar slinking up the stem He's squishy, green, and yellow and whatever color blends But mostly he's repulsive, no one wants to be like him Til his cocoon brings forth a frog as every young boy's friend If you prefer the butterfly, then shoo them off of logs For if they light they might become a snack for some big frog You'd think by now a butterfly would come equipped with claws But evolution always has been fraught with endless flaws

G'day Ben... thanks for the giggle Ben. But you are right, old Mother Nature has turned out some creatures stranger than fiction. Regards - Lindsay
