Notes About The Poem

Double Dactyl
Light verse created by John Hollander and Antony Hecht. Two quatrains, with three dactyl lines followed by one dactyl line with a single accent. The first line-a phrase with no meaning, The second line is the subject of the poem, (usually someone's name), must be double-dactylic. One line of the second stanza must also be entirely one double dactyl word, example "va-le-dic-tor-i-an".

Bibbity Bobbity

Bibbity Bobbity
Christopher Columbus
headed east, but instead
went west they said.

His nautical goal was 
circumnavigation,
but North America
stomped that dream dead.



Hickory Dickory
Marion Morrison
crafted a cowboy name
to fan his flame.

His new handle, John Wayne
instantaneously
launched him as a star of
western film fame.
