Beyond the Rainbow
My hopes became big and bold
The mind could no longer hold
They grew wings of lofty desire
On birds flying in the squally air.
Through the arch of rainbow hue
To the misty horizon they flew
Where the shrouded sun would try
Paint setting colors on cold and moist sky.
They flew in a flock through the cloud
Making designs that made them proud
I tried long to decode the pattern
Some I could, many I couldn’t discern
But the flock made new motifs in flight
Allured me to be with the flying birds of delight.
I couldn’t reach them, gave up in the long run
They all flew away, I waited for their return
For if hopes on wings of birds subsist
They fly away beyond the winter mist.
So, I was in the middle of nowhere
At the edge of my winter severe
And wished the birds that flew away
Would return to me someday
And into dream butterflies they would turn
So real I could touch their colors that would burn
So near I could hear their wings quiver
Beyond the rainbow they won’t disappear ever.
