Beware the Bearhugger
Beware the Bearhugger
By Elton Camp
Whether a relative or acquaintance matters not
This man shows up and wants what you’ve got
“Hello, my friend, on visiting you I’ve got behind
But here of late, I’ve had you so often on my mind
He wraps his arm around your shoulder for a hug
And to escape his unwanted grasp you try to shrug
For you know that, before the bearhugger is gone
He’s planning to try his best to use you as his pawn
“So tell me all about your beautiful wife & chil’en.
I hear that your’re doing well and find that thrillin.’”
You know about those things he cares not a speck
To his advantage, your finances he intends to wreck
And as soon as the flattery he thinks likely did work,
There comes the business proposal from the big jerk
“I’ve found a way to make money as never seen before
Because we’re pals, will let you in on the ground floor.”
And then he gradually reveals to you all of the rest
All you need is ten thousand dollars you can invest
With financial loss you most certainly aren’t messing
Since, he says, it’s an operation that God is blessing
But all credibility the obnoxious bearhugger lacks
You know well that the other hand does hold an axe
So say your’re not interested and don’t explain why
To act incredulous at your stupidity don’t let him try
