Between You and the Sun

the devil with the angel’s eyes

is standing on the corner

staring back at me

with one last look of betray

for losing the simple things in life

I am an eternal mourner

guilty of of holding only to

the memories of a dying day

push aside the barriers

between you and the sun

stand above the earth

don’t tell yourself that it will never be

climb the ladder of

subconscious wanderings of love

fall from your perch of self-righteousness

for the darkness will not let you see

the way

the way back home

the simple road

to anything greater than skin and bone

the feel

the feel of love upon your heart

the touch of hope

the fires the gun

that finally says it’s time to start

rising above
