Between Us
Between Us
the heavy rusted hinges
resist my first attempt
again at the gates I pull back hard
and the siren creak of years
at last gives up it's hold
pull and pull
to open these iron eyes
locked so long ago
a young man ready to forget
steps blind and wet
into the forest of swords
today is different
the delicious hunger is my perfect failure
I had to loose so much
to see so little
all that's left is all there is
the air between us warmed by sensation
I remember the graceful arc
your hand across an empty table
a lifetime swept aside
the chair leg growl against the floor
the silence after
more and more
