Betrayed

I won't betray him to his suspicious wife,
Looking into her eyes I saw tears, sorrow.
How I wished he had stayed away from the girl,
She still loved him dearly from the heart, I knew.

Did he know the girl before? she had asked me.
I acknowledged; she was my wife's friend, not his.
Not expecting her to call up my dear wife:
We were now safe and clear from the doubting mind.

He went to meet this lovely youthful girl,
Instinctively I buy the red roses.
Knowing my wife would be surprised to get them.
Since when have you been flirting with this young girl?

With a wink, smiling I give her the roses,
Takes the flowers, knowing I have been betrayed.
