Betrayal of Childhood

Joyful child runs to the sea
 following footsteps
 in red,
 spattered
 sand

 She stops mid stride,
 a gasp
 deflates her
 as blue
 turns to
 red

 Blood soaked devils
 stab
 and slash
 and
 laugh

 Tears fall
 and she runs
 away
 in terror.

 The teacher, the neighbour
 and the whaler
 kill innocents
