Betrayal

To listen, she asked
Your verdict already cast
Expletives punctuating ignorance.

Her tears exciting,
remarks dehumanising,
impossible to retract.
Your reputation prioritised,
her name slandered;
victory yours,
loss hers.

Her life,
a product of yours;
her livelihood,
you attempt to deny.

A provider,
you succeed to be.
Material a measure to your worth,
blood expendable to your notes.

Tempers flared,
intent differed,
the innocent,
deemed guilty.

Once a child,
now a woman;
once a father,
now a stranger.
