Besides

there are the less
(the less
than subtle ways)
that I make love to you

through distance
and song:
‘Besides’
by Helen Jane Long.

Poetry is a business,
not art,
and Van Gogh has become
a cliché.

His starry night is studied
by rich men with paychecks.

I am not him.
His lonely sky
can’t be explained.

Neither can mine.
