Beside You

I love you, I have always loved you,
without reason or why
my soul calls out to you
and it says home

I have nestled against you in the darkness,
head against heart
submerged in the peace I find within you
drifting against you like waves to the beach

You ask me why I lost myself
when you sent me away
and I always stand mouth open and empty
my words struggling to come out

I want to tell you that I don't know
I'm afraid you wouldn't understand
When I barely understand myself
but the words float just behind my tongue

I found a piece of myself in you
a feeling i thought was long gone
a sense of safety and security
my soul felt like i had finally found its place
there beside you
