Beneath the Wheel
Better slow down.
Better still, just sit and hush.
On the road to kingdom come
It doesn't pay to rush.
As you race through those canyons
Of concrete and steel,
Don't fall for a fast one
And slip beneath the wheel.
Slow it down.
Slow it down and take your time.
Count down to one from ninety-nine.
Then just count on down,
And count on down,
And count on down again.
What's your hurry?
You must come to realize
Your tour guide is a charlatan,
A celebrity of lies.
With his Hollywood savvy
He offers a deal;
Mere yellow brick gold dust.
Don't slip beneath the wheel.
Lay it down.
Lay it down and dream awhile.
Just let your lover see you smile.
Then go lay it down,
And lay it down,
And lay it down again.
Better slow down.
Better yet, just stop and think
Will your faith in love endure
Your ego’s weakest link?
It’s a hard life that tests us,
A rugged ordeal.
Take care you don't stumble
And slip beneath the wheel.
