Beneath the Lights Dwm

perhaps the way the stage was lit
with disco balls flashing above
an array of colors spinning around the room
you may have felt the stairs would lead to heaven
or some other unknown realm

you may have felt like a "dancing queen"
in your go-go boots and satin mini
spinning around the room
bumping and shaking
as you carefully avoided
stepping on his bell bottoms
as they slid along the floor

out there just " stayin alive"
as the smoky haze lit the room
for a "slow ride" across the wooden floors
curled within the tucks of his arms
hoping you'd be the one that he'd want
and not shatter your "heart of glass"

as the music faded out
black lights lit the room
where his smile was shining
brighter than his "firebird"
beneath the moon's glow

at the end of the night
you'd "go your own way"
holding onto that moment
until the next Friday's dance
after all you were just "typical girls"
hoping the "boys were back in town"
to take you down the next
"long and winding road"
towards the bliss of young love

Love the imagery, Sandra! For example: as you carefully avoided stepping on his bell bottoms as they slid along the floor... I can picture it! Congratulations on first place!

Wow thank you so much Kim... what a pleasant surprise this morning, I am honored... thanks for hosting this fun contest... it took my muse a bit to get on board with all that is happening around us...I have been off work since 3/12... hope all is well in your corner of the world... hugs and blessings!

so clever to incorporate those disco age titles inside your poem. Kim is sure to love that. You are not too much younger than me if you went by your high school days. haha!! The disco came on after my time!!

lol... the bell bottoms were surely something else, but they didn't last as long as these drooping jeans...hugs

You lit the dance floor with memories of music and charming imagery of days past--splendidly done my friend. Bliss of young love, indeed!

Thank you Vijay... we had a lot of fun places to go when we were teens... unlike the kids these days... we had dance shops, ice and roller rinks to keep us active on the weekends! hugs
