Beneath the Echo

I’m wed to moon, a motif for romance. A god, my grace by poets oft is sung. Yet some who voyage my expanse by chance into the briny depths of me are flung by tempests or by quakes! I do not save unfortunates. I reign but give free will. Chained chattel cruelly cast into a grave by tyrants - lie submerged within me still. When *Kraken drags his victims ‘neath my skin, like God above, I rarely interfere but brim with salty tears for all that’s sin. Now hold this token seashell near your ear. . . beneath the echo of an endless swell, hear souls whose grief one God alone can quell. *Kraken is a mythical monster of the sea For the the Open Sea - Sailing, Creatures, Treasures Poetry Contest Now for Brian Strand'sthe 'ALL YOURS (Jan 27)' Poetry Contest Contest Details

I admire you honest approach as you describe parts of you, Andrea. Instead of "laying on the fluff" that many would have done, you peeled back parts of you and how you deal with . . . sin and cruelty. I absolutely loved this poem. One of those in the category of "Wish I'd've wrote that myself."

hmmm, maybe I should have done something to make it clearer. I am using first person to personify myself as the sea. Hope that comes through!! But maybe it doesn't. Anyway, Glad you liked my poem.

Andrea, so many prickly quills herein to spur some further thought and several more readings of this poem. A subtle call to come back before the light fades slowly. John

Beneath the echo a whisper lies From those who see the Other Side Dancing winds whip and say, "Morn not the Night to bear the Day..." Waves on a beach... ---------------------------------------------- This is my poetic response to your poem. Great work. It truly inspired me. --Alex
