Belong

Looking down at the ground
Feeling like I’m bound
By all the people around
Wondering what I did wrong
To feel like I don’t belong
Trying just to get along

Looking at the sky
Wishing I could fly
Wanting to say goodbye
Thinking about the words
Everything’s in chords
Stuck in the middle of the board

The words you say that keep me up
Nights are long; days are torn
Searching for a way to build up
But I’m being pricked by your thorn
All I hear is “suck it up buttercup”
When I try not to mourn

Shuffling the cards
Keeping up my guards
Falling behind, going backwards
Wondering what I did wrong
To feel like I don’t belong
Trying just to get along.
