Being Not Received at Reception Desk

I am thrilled to only see two people ahead of me at medical clinic
No one is at reception’s desk
I know the routine
so I fill out the forms while I wait
No one comes.
I have been here four minutes
I ask one of the others “was anyone here?”
“She left a bit ago,” one replies.
a female nurse comes out of exam room.
Fiddles around a bit.
Goes back into same exam room.
Nurse comes back out after a bit.
Asks me “where is the receptionist?”
“I am wondering myself,” I reply.
“she will need your ID and medical card,” the woman says.
I hand them over and she leaves it all for the receptionist under the high counter.
a few more people leave exam rooms.
No one else is called back yet.
a woman holding a sandwich and large drink comes wandering in.
That explains why she had left her desk.
But to not leave a sign or anything?
I remain standing there,
not wanting the six people behind me to get ahead.
