Behind's Not Ahead

The years stretch out behind me
        rapidly dwindle ahead

     Memory lane’s an expressway
        in front, the future’s bled

Gershon, the contrast between the long expressway of memory and the narrowing road ahead really resonates. A Fav poem for me. Congratulations on Poem Of The Week!

Hello Gershon, Congrats POTW!! I like how you let the image of memory as a fast-moving road carry the weight of both speed and loss. It’s brief, but it lingers, because it makes me think about how the past can feel more alive than what’s ahead. Autumn Blessings, Dear Gershon, Daniel

' Memory lane’s an expressway. ' I've never thought about in this way, but there's a lot of truth in that statement. It's always nice to slow down and embrace each beautiful memory. Congratulations Gershon, on Poem of the Week. Hugs, Brandy

You know, memory lane does slow down for me as I withdraw from my workday life. Interesting. Thanks, Brandy

I still try to look forward, looking back has lead me to trip both metaphorically and physically!

Looking backward normally demands eyes in the back of one's head... Do you have them, Bj? Keep smiling, Gershon

I picture you as Arte Johnson. Once a day, you come out, flower in hand, and recite your quip. LOL…hugs https://youtube.com/shorts/ukRbQoICf_Y?si=PEfmy2CP04r7XRug
