Behind These Lies

Behind every smile that you see
Is a thousand memories
Of when times where so much tougher
These feelings I felt, much rougher

Behind every laugh that you hear
Is a cluster of frozen tears
That were shed with sorrow in silence
Hiding from the surrounding violence

Behind every nice thing I say
Is an insult to myself of hate
Scars from when I just wanted to feel
Something that would finally be real

Behind the person that I am
Is a life that never fully began
Cut short by my own hand
Sentenced to a deserted neverland

Forever I continue to exist
In a paranoid state of bliss
When you look at me, you will never see
The lies behind that are unseen

Deep and moving poetry, Harmony. There is much more to all of us than shows on the outside. Many times, we fail to see the struggle and pain a person has endured because they are hiding it with a great effort to comfort others and not have a negative impact on others. It can destroy us inside if we don't let it out in a constructive way. I'm a first-time visitor to your poetry, but I'll be back soon. I'm following your poetry so we can get to know each other and out poetry better. A poet friend (to be), Bill

I am glad that you are enjoying my poetry. I have been through extreme conditions for my age and poetry is the way that I let these feelings out. Thank you for your feedback~
