Behind the Skin

Why do laugh at me when you know my pain?
Why do you insult me when you see my name?

Am I so different to be subjected to all this hate?
Am I so different that I can’t be your mate?

Where does the border cross in the mind of you?
An invisible line on the ground that caused the
deaths of many people like me and you!

So I stand and I ask of you - do you
just hate the colour of my skin or do you hate
the human behind it too?
