Behind the 7-11

When I think of any goodness in me,
It’s all from my mom.
(Dad’s great, too, don’t get me wrong.)
But there was something in the growing up,
Some magical spell,
She made me feel funny, smart,
I could walk right through Hell.

With her lessons taught just south of Heaven
Behind the 7-11,
Forgiveness arrived in heaps and heaps,
Self-expression was expected behavior,
Life was something to savor.

Happy Birthday, Mom.
Thanks for being a lighthouse for my soul,
Forever shining towards love and goodness.
(Dad’s great, too, don’t get me wrong.)
