Beginnings

I stand before a mirror
And stare into my eyes
Behind cold blue irises
Is someone I don't recognize

Deep in my heart
A soul still remains
But I can feel a change
Flowing through my veins

Transition begins
Shedding outer skin
Alter ego no longer hides
Stepping out from within

Thoughts were once confusion
Night and day combined as one
I know now there's a difference 
Between moonlight and the sun

I've left behind my darkness
One wrought of fear and pain
Breathed in a new beginning 
Let life begin again
