Before There Was Irene...

Before there was Irene,
now there is sweet Darlene;
Irene liked me only as a friend,
Darlene loves me and doesn't pretend!

Irene was sixteen,
I was eighteen;
and she only wanted that extraordinary guy,
not a guy who was real and ordinary!
Oh,Irene wanted me to be someone else:
rich,well-educated and glamorous;
no,she couldn't accept me as I was,
or without any inheritance!

Before there was Irene,
now there is pretty Marlene;
she can start out my fantasies,
and satisfies all my desires!

Before there was Irene,
now there is sweet Darlene;
Irene was chasing after her own vanity,
Darlene is generous and full of sincerity!
