Before Poetry

Whatever did I do to wile away my time Before poetry took over my brain Walked around staring blankly into space Burping and expelling methane Really no direction I was truly a lost soul The word 'zombie' enters my mind But now I'm alive and cooking with gas Rhyming away line after line Friends all say, “knock that stuff off!” Love to but my brain is obsessed Even rhyme when I'm ordering a pizza This affliction has made me quite stressed I lovingly remember those carefree days Before poetry took over my life I went to the park and did normal things Threatening little kids with a knife If you didn't think that line was appropriate Couldn't find another to rhyme So don't go writing me nasty letters I'm really not the violent kind To end this silliness on an upbeat note I've ended up here in the Soup Met a nice bunch of really friendly people Sure happy I'm now in the loop © Jack Ellison 2014

When I met PoetrySoup Dragon and I learned to tip toe thru the Tulips. Poor tulips! Dragon likes to hide there. While I follow with a broom trying to get him out. The Sheriff of Crazyland hates when we do that. As Park Ranger, he is sworn to protect everything in bloom! But that includes imagination, doesn't it? Besides, I had the Sheriff of Crazyland put up some painted, large, wooden tulips. What? Surely, you didn't think we'd destroy real tulips, did you? And it's fall, not spring! Silly people!

Making fun of something that has completely taken over our life, love it, Jack. I am happy to be among the many brains that poetry has invaded. We look at life in different and interesting ways. And see in things what others do not see. They just shake their heads and look at us strangely. Anyway, I'm happy to be in the loop. You might enjoy my poem "Playing with Words" unless you've already seen it. Blessings, Darlene

Hello dear friend! Seems like I may have hit a nerve with you! LOL We sure are quite strange though but I'm damn proud of it! Strange is good, certainly not boring! I definitely will check out your "stuff", Miss Darlene! Loving hugs, Jack XXX
