Before Last Breath

Before last breath, he finds a quiet space
As time's arc has reached its final expanse
Traveled trails from life are etched in his face
His sense of mortality is enhanced
On the long road, his heart had been assailed
Left to bleed memories that stabbed the mind
Where forgiveness was asked for times he failed
An enduring pain to always remind
Yet, could he have known a life more sublime
As he chased moments of laughter's sweet guise
His passionate heart wrote poetic rhyme
Read to the lovers who welcomed his eyes
This evening falls dark to replace the light
As his eyes close slowly with life's twilight

What a thoughtful poem about a man approaching the end of his life. A sonnet of beauty. And thank you for the wonderful comment you left me about my poem "50 Years Korean War". My Dad and other Korean War Veterans were truly among the forgotten heroes of that war as our country took so long to finally recognize them with the Korean War Memorial. Again, very nice sonnet you wrote. I like it. Celine Rose Mariotti

So lovely, and also congrats on the win I saw you got from Brian with this sonnet gem.
