Been Walking For Miles
Went to sleep a boy and woke up a man,
things just happen when you don't have a plan.
Got twenty to life for being alone,
got a warden for a wife and a prison for a home.
I've been walking for miles to get out of town,
finally reached Heaven, but they turned me around.
There was no room in the inn, so I stayed down stairs.
Life's full of troubles and I've had my share.
Always searching for eyes I can trust,
but eyes can lie when your heart's filled with lust.
Someone warm can help you face the night,
when morning comes you can count on the light.
Got to find some new shoes, these are full of pain,
from carrying a soul through the dust and the rain.
I have no excuse for the things that I've done,
but the wages are high in the season of fun.
When I come to the end and I finish my race,
I'll stand before my Judge and ask for some grace.
