Notes About The Poem

Sadly racism is something I've faced way too many times, but well color of my skin doesn't define me.. a monoku inspired by racist remarks I get in this ignorant world! Am i not human?

Been Thinking

Ink of my skin doesn't define me,
nor does it construe my poetry.

I'm sure dearest Inky, that if people were able to look into your Soul they would see the most iridescent colours of the rainbow. Sad they don't. Unfortunate for them. Your heart and Soul will always attract the right people into your life, people on the same wavelength as you, and that's all that matters. Hugs and Love

I love that "ink of my skin." I'm sorry you've had to deal with ignorant racists. God made everyone beautiful in their own way and our differences in looks and culture should be celebrated and appreciated, but people also need to be looked at as individuals, not representative of all or grouped into a bubble of a certain identity based on ethnicity alone.

I wrote a piece titled “A Poem for Michael” my attempt to try and understand what people of colour have to deal with almost every day. Your poem is a good reminder that prejudice is not just a part of history but rather a very present reality.

Thank you for reminding us of the continuing stupidity of mankind. I love seeing the children in our neighborhood playing together, laughing and smiling as the play. The younger ones have no ideal others are different from them, they just love to play with their friends. Why do adults have so much trouble accepting everyone as equals? We're all the same color inside, and that's the important part of each of us. I try to look at the heart of people. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

Dear friend Ink, In our modern era, one would hope that society would have evolved beyond superficial judgments and recognized the inherent worth of our inner selves. However, it is disheartening to witness how we are persistently reduced to mere appearances, disregarding the depth and importance of our souls. This piece serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent necessity to address this issue.

These days, Ink, if the color of your skin is white, you are an assumed racist. Here in the USA statues of men who were white are being covered, moved or destroyed. That is Racism to me. I believe what MLK said, “He looked forward to the day when, men were judged by character, not the color of their skin. He meant all colors. There are Christians and Jews who are white, and these days, they are assumed racist. Children learn racism at home, Pangie cx

I hear you ink, loud and clear!! There is no joy, satisfaction in hating anyone for their race, religion and let’s add, political party, shall we! No justification I would harmed, walking on the West Side of Chicago. You may ne beaten or killed. That’s only where one race kills its own, numbers growing THERE each year. No politicians go there!?people of the same color there, afraid of each other.so bad, they stay home. Kids cannot play outdoors. All The same race.God help them. Pangiexxx

You are right about assumptions, unfortunately not many talk about racism that whites face, but it is also racism. Racism is taught at home how they perceive too yes, sometimes can be taught from a young age. But racism iv faced isnt from whites by the way: it is other races but whichever race it is, my question is why must i be judged based on my skin color or where i am from, why cant i be judged based on my character and how i treat or make others feel, we are all human we are all breathe the same air and we leave this world, as ash and bone, we are all Gods creation . Thats all i am saying. Thank you for sharing your thoughts too: grateful for your support

Yes!!! Short and powerful words. In this day and age, you would think that people could see beyond skin into the value of our souls. And yet here we are, constantly defined by our outer, physical layers. This is a much needed piece. Thank you for this.

I grew up a child in a time where racism was very vocal and evident, I hate all forms of bigotry, but racism is one that has been around for a very very long time.. If you look at colonisation and the slave trade, where people of colour were seen as inferior, sadly it is still around these days, although they cant be as vocal, they still do it mentally and also many with unconscious bias.. So many make fun of how others speak, but do not realise how offensive that is.. so many are so ignorant.

I guess you must have seen more of life and its cruelty and challenges, so thank you for sharing your wisdom and yes people dont like what they dont know or are not familiar with, yes probably even in comments some may find it funny to pick on me, my skin my background, but their actions don’t define me; it is a mere reflection of their ignorance: thank you for sticking around and for always speaking truth! Men like you are rare . Bless

I'm sorry you still suffer like this, I know some do it online, ive seen it on comments, these charmless cowards hiding behind a computer screen.. On that note, have you seen the film, accused? That highlights social media and how it can troll innocent people. Great one liner, lets hope we can live in world where we are not judged as a colour.
