Bedtime

You don't see what you do to me
when you stare at me with your soft brown eyes
You smile & I can only appreciate
those beautiful dimples--
How perfect your genetic imperfection is
I lay beside you, longing for your embrace
and when I'm in your arms, I hold still
as if, for a moment, I could stop time
Just to feel you close to me
A kiss goodnight
I hold your hand, you hold mine
You're fast asleep & in this quiet peace
I find contentment...
hearing soft exhalation, & an occasional snore
feeling your breath on my neck, or a slight touch
of you sweet lips on my back
And when I rest my head upon your chest
I hear your heart beating, with such a rhythm
that I could listen to forever
