Because I'M a Poet

She thinks because I'm a poet I'm going to be romantic She doesn't understand that I write because I'm so damaged She thinks because I'm a poet, I can write the words for her heart But she doesn't understand that I write to stop myself from falling apart She thinks because I'm a poet I'm some beautiful romantic soul I need to welcome her to reality, because I'm tortured, damaged and close to losing control I wish I could be the Ed Sheeran that she thinks I am I'm too attached to the pen, to allow me and her to attach our hands Most of my love poems are about how I've been hurt and treated wrong I consider having to write poems to survive as weakness, and nothing to do with being strong She has heart shaped eyes, because she thinks I will be the new Drake If she looked closely, she'd see all of my tears and blood on the page I wish I could write the perfect words that make her feel like a princess But I'm still damaged, and I'm just not there yet Everything I have I leave it all on the paper, so I don't have more to give Maybe one day I'll write her the perfect words, but first I need to figure out how to progress Because I'm a poet she thinks I'll be a cross between Ed Sheeran and Drake My heart is fractured, so i'm constantly fearing the break One more wrong touch, and it'll be broke for good She doesn't seem to understand that I write with my tears and blood She thinks because I'm a poet I'm always going to be romantic She thinks because I'm a poet I'll write the poetical version of Titanic She doesn't realise I'm writing to stop myself from falling apart She thinks because I'm a poet I'll naturally have the words to her heart
