Beauty

?

How are we supposed to know if we’re pretty
when beauty only got one meaning nowadays?
We’re not even us—
silicone in us,
then fuss when somebody talks about it.

Our role models are pure plastic,
so we grow up thinking we gotta have it too.
The truth is, beauty is within,
not a butt lift, not changing your skin,
not flat ironing your hair to fit in,
not skipping meals to get thin.

They say the girls with the fat ass
and the small waist are winning,
but the more you try,
the more it turns into self-pity.

If we keep it up,
nobody gonna be real.
I’m not tryna be rude,
this is just how I feel.
Society will break you if you let it.

I wanted to be someone else too—I admit.
It’s either you love you or hate you.
Adding stuff to yourself isn’t loving you.
When you see your true value,
that’s how you know you love you.
