Beach Buddies

I’m sitting silently listening to the swoosh swoosh of the sea Children paddle in icy sapphire water, so young and carefree Their screams of innocent laughter are ringing in my ear I reminisce of my childhood and dream of yesteryear Of days before computers and the electronic age Mobile phones weren’t invented, now they are all the rage Bleep Bleep Bleep oh how irritating, it is a constant noise But now they are essential to many young girls and boys Life so full of simple pleasures, wind blowing through my hair Running round barefooted with kites floating in mid air Digging spectacular sandcastles with a dramatic moat Splashing around in the sea together in a tiny little boat Enjoying a perfect picnic on the golden sand Getting an ice cream and it melting down my hand Finding stunning starfish and a pretty pink seashell Take them into school to display at show and tell Climbing into craggy rock pools with a fishing net Falling on the rocks getting clothes soaking wet Bathing beauties on the beach topping up a tan Suns rays beating down they wish they had a fan 08~-2~14 Written for Vibrant Verse Contest 2 Sponsored by Charlotte Puddifoot

boy, you are so right about the kids today and their damn cell phones. All these simple pleasures were displayed with great descriptive words, Jan. HOpe to see this on the winners' list.

Jan what a great poem, that is just how it was when I was growing up, these days kids are zombies, my grandchildren come over to spend the weekend with us and you don't see them they are sitting in the bedroom with their eyes glued to these machines, they don't even hear you talk to them which is quite rude...........Take care my friend...Vera.........

when I think of the changes from my own childhood to those of my grand children I can't help but think of how frightened my grand parents must have been going from horses to the jet plane

My parents are 90 and 91 - oh how things have changed so much in their lifetime. My Grandfather was one of the first people in his area to own a car - how times have changed and not all for the better I have to say! Would love to go back to the simple things in life - but I imagine for some people that would be so difficult. Hugs Jan xx
