Be Still

Be still, love, be still, as snows capping mountains, as ice freezing lakes, as snapshots in dark focus, as all of my mistakes. Be still, love, be still, as night in airless deserts, as insects amber snared, as dust in attic rooms as things for which I cared. Be still, love, be still, as sleep beneath the ocean, as space between the stars, as breath upon a mirror, as all my hidden scars. Be still, love, be still, as not to stir the echoes, as not rake the lawn, as still as death’s cold kiss as all conclusions drawn. Be still, love, be still, as not to ruffle feathers as still as graveyard stone, as still as I still love you as if you were still flesh and bone.
