Be Great
I missed out on the movie star
but I met an American hero.
Oh how humble the paratrooper of yesteryear.
When I thanked him for his service, he said,
“You were worth it.”
Blessed by an image of God
in the footsteps of man.
He’s a preacher, besides.
I missed out, but knew God had his best
set in motion…what’s all the commotion…
We meet great people every day
who’ll be noted by God
for their humble devotion.
When I entered the party
for wrestling referees,
he
was the first to greet me.
At that time
I had no idea of his greatness.
I will always treasure this.
And let me not forget
my dear husband
who I stand beside -
it’s cool that he serves with black and white
striped shirt and a whistle
in what can be a dangerous sport
when 250 pounders charge
precariously in his direction
knocking him out.
Also the knowledge
that the organisation is currently
having trouble
finding new referees to serve
(makes me so proud that my husband
is in the ranks)
they also need women to step up
as women wrestle too.
We all make up this great big world -
movie stars, veterans, me and you.
Wherever you find yourself
be great…
be humble
and serve.
