Be a Seasheel Or a Clam

Be a Seashell or a Clam I sit here at this ocean's edge watching boats sail on by Sun begins its fade another October sky Water tranquil, oh so calm, the nightcaps settle in This sky reflects a gilded red awaiting another day to end I feel safe and find comfort in the ocean's shimmering surface It's where I find my peace, my hearts little furnace I'm always drawn to this masterpiece and will be all my life It makes my problems disappear along with all its strife Pick up a seashell and compare it to me My life on this earth as its to this sea A morsel, a thimble, a tiny grain of sand How important is it or me for who I am The shell is left open and now lies empty Cracks of life line its surface and nowhere can it hide This shell was once robust, as robust as could be Now it just lies empty on the shore for all to see This empty shell a keeper unique in many ways Or do I simply drop it and leave it where it lays Maybe this shell feels better empty, no longer has a chore To protect its inner feelings has always been its lure Washed ashore from scattered waters rave Leaving traces of time that's simply slipped away The life of a seashell, somewhat like my own Expose my inner feelings, live life and not postpone Life is like the ocean or a seashell so it seems Allow each wave and current will only spoil your dreams Enjoy each tide low and high it makes me who I am Me I'm not a seashell but proud to be a clam Bob Lima
