Be a Man

I was always taught
Men shouldn't cry
Now when I look back
I'm left to wonder why

Lack of expression
Emotions held inside
Silly badge of honor
A mans stoic pride

Hearts that are broken
Pain from many years
Souls that are drowning 
In pools of unshed tears

Strength redefined
Time to be real
Men no longer shackled 
They can express how they feel

Only, not in such ways that make men look, um... less than a man... meaning, because I am compassionate does not mean that I am not strong or able to protect what is mine... Make sense? After years of keeping things secret and then finally showing my writings to people it was (not to sound cliche) quite literally a burden coming off my shoulders.

She reads my poems to him and says they brighten up his days. Brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye to know my silliness has helped him laugh during some tough times!
