Be a Doormat Is What I Heard

I used to pretend I did not have feelings. It was a family trait, instilled by everyone. Be a doormat is the message I received. Let everyone walk all over you. If they stomp do not wail Thank them. I sacrificed my own feelings for a long time. Thinking it was the Christian way, the desirable thing to do. Instilled by a mother who had no idea she had done this. Instilled by a mother who would have never let anyone walk all over her. Weirdly my twin sister and I received the same message. It took us many years to get over this. Realizing our feelings could be honored too And we would not lose our souls to the devil for having feelings. A huge relief!
