Battlescars

Stories on my body remind me of the day
of a darkness that swallowed me that's too big to convey
And every time I see myself, I think of a mistake
it gets harder still to love this life, the one I thought I'd take
I've stitched together open skin and tried to make it new
but soon I'll simply have to learn that healing is victory too
Healing is the victory, the triumph that I lost
the reminder of the strength I have and the chasm that I crossed
Because making scars is way too easy but mending them is hard
they come from darkness, but as I heal, I'll learn this night is starred
