Notes About The Poem

Battle Scars

" Every act of abuse, deepens the misery. Every accepted promise, brings death closer." ~The Poet~

Sleep wont come, nights are never ending.
Beyond all the pain my spirit is descending.

You ripped out my heart. I am an empty vessel.
Devotion for you, and feelings of loathing, wrestle.

Your hateful, bitter words on my soul left a stain.
I showered you with love, you greeted me with pain.

So many questions, my tortured mind is ill at ease.
The man of my dreams now impossible to please.

Toxic thoughts encircle my mind like a plague.
Shell shocked and shattered, my feelings are vague.

I cannot comprehend why you lost all control.
Leaving a void, an abyss I am no longer whole.

Memories are so clouded of that fateful night.
Bewildered why you lashed out, was it all in spite?

Visions of you laughing at me behind those bars.
My broken body lays dormant covered in battle scars.

You took all the love, an abundance I had to give.
They say, there’s nothing they can do, I wont live.

It is soul ripping when love is not reciprocated. Many, especially women suffer through broken relationships. When bitterness or cruelty alone is returned in place of love, the giver gets shattered. Victims of domestic violence are all around us. We feel for them. A very powerful poem written in beautiful rhyming couplets. Congratulations dear friend on your top placement.

Thank you dear one... I have read your wonderful Humming bird poem and its remiss of me not to have commented yet. I will do so now. and Congratulations. The girl singing the song Battle scars is my beloved Granddaughter. She recorded it dubbing over her own voice, so all the voices you hear are her own. (Just thought you might like to know). Hugs Wen
