Basket of Silence
She walked briskly
along the boardwalk,
between the bakery and ocean.
I'd seen her before,
but only once this season,
like an elusive butterfly.
The small basket in her hand,
covered with a checkered cloth,
swung by her side.
I asked what she carried
and without stopping or pause
she replied, “Words cannot convey.”
