Bark, Bark, Bark

When there is a thunderstorm -
Bark! Bark! Bark!
When there’s a knock upon the door -
Bark! Bark! Bark!
When a cat comes into sight -
Bark! Bark! Bark!
When there’s noises in the night -
Bark! Bark! Bark!
When Harry’s practice claims a cure -
Bark! Bark! Bark!
When fishing shows toss out a lure -
Bark! Bark! Bark!
When teasing him with an old sock -
Bark! Bark! Bark!
When the time ticks five o’clock -
Bark! Bark! Bark!
At least Tom doesn’t try to bite us,
but now and then - PLEASE laryngitis!

Love it Lindsay! That's the reason I have a cat - dear old Jeff doesn't bark, poop on the lawn or gets me up at 3AM for him to find relief! Barking dogs are a nuisance. Neighbor behind me has a great Dane that barks at his own shadow and sounds like a ship's fog horn!!! Thankfully they are moving next week but who knows who will move in. 'Preciate your stopping by to take a read at some of my concoctions. Carry on, Mate! - Bob

G'day Bob … especially if it's not your dog. One dog starts and like the pony express, away they go with their message stick like way. Always a pleasure to read your messages in rhyme Bob - Lindsay

Excellent, humorous piece, Lindsay. Just love the last two lines. 'Silence is Golden' ain't just a phrase sometimes. G'day! ~ Gershon

Hello Gershon … it's the constant monotone bark that grates on the nerves in time, but a dog can be a wonderful companion - thanks Gershon - Lindsay

Our neighbour's dog used to bark at everything, at all hours. I bought a device that has a high tone that dogs don't like and it helps to stop them from barking. I thought great, I've solved my problem until I found out my neighbors dog is deaf. The poor thing finally died and now I get some rest. I enjoyed your poem. I have always had a cat for that reason.: ) .

Hello Connie … interesting what you wrote Connie. There is a verse in that I feel. We don't have a cat as such, but every neighbourhood cat appears to have our yard as an ideal spot to be. We have a new pup now, so interesting times ahead - Lindsay

what a GREAT ending on this one. I guess there are shock collars to train them not to bark at everything. I wonder if that is a good idea! My dog was this way too. Uggg, it was so annoying.

Hello Andrea … Yes Andrea, a barking dog (especially a neighbours) has the ability to test our nerves at times, especially if it appears to be barking at nothing - thanks Andrea - Lindsay

My wife has since ate her words "I wish he'd bark!", about our over zealous poodle Pixie! We still love her though!...WDBTW........pat

G'day Pat … Our dog always knows when a visitor has arrived and our barks before a knock on the door. A dog also gives unconditional love so a bark now and then is quite okay - thanks Pat - Lindsay

G'day Rico … I imagine I better ask my dog first. I could get sued for being too kind to my dog - thanks Rico - Lindsay

We have two Labradors and each bark means something, the early morning urgent bark, the asking to be fed bark, the happy bark when we come back home, and a short woof to say goodnight - really love them both - great poem Lindsay - the Laryngitis reminds me of a joke when a husband is thankful that his wife has lost her voice for a while! Enjoyed this write immensely Lindsay - Tom is just vocal! Hugs, Jennifer.

Hello Jennifer … dogs are very intelligent and yes, their bark has a meaning for us to respond to them. However, there are times when they communicate with the district dogs that we don't seem to understand - thank you Jennifer - Lindsay

Hello Panagiota … true; dogs can be a great comfort. Our native dog, the dingo doesn't bark, it howls - thanks Panagiota - Lindsay

Those barks can be most welcome, but there are moments when they can become too much, lol. Grinning at your ending :) Regards // paul

Hello Gordon … thank you Gordon. It appears much worse though if it's a neighbours dog barking all night - thanks Gordon - Lindsay

Now that I have a cat instead of a dog, I do not miss the barking but the friendship and loyalty a dog provides. that I do. Have a great night.

Hello David … dogs and cats make great pets, but their traits are totally different. A dog that continually barks can test you out though - thanks - Lindsay
