Bananas
Bananas
Leaf
six feet long
fingertip to elbow wide
fat red flower
dangling from
bottom of the bunch
we watch as
each petal falls
and when the last one
drops to the ground
Fruit is ready
to pick and ripen
succulent and sweet
razor sharp machete
severs the whole stalk
and tomorrow
another takes its place
as we devour rice
and garlic shrimp
from banana leaf plates...
