Notes About The Poem

Balancing the scales

Life is far from easy breezy
We work we toil we suffer
We dream we climb we fall

Happiness measured in moments
is gathered as precious gems
to be cherished in our mind

The two short stanzas balance life’s struggles against its treasured moments of happiness. The repeated “we” gives the first stanza a shared, rhythmic urgency, while the image of happiness gathered as precious gems brings the poem to a tender, reflective close.
