Notes About The Poem

5/31/2024 for Any Theme - 12 LInes Poetry Contest sponsored by Joseph May

Baked Temptresses

They tease me,
Vying for my attention
Behind the bakery display case.

Voluptuous, some bursting with fruit,
The brazen, the coquettish,
They tease me.

Which to pick?
The Austrian strudel or Danish
Vying for my attention?

Impetuously taking her
In my car, from
Behind the bakery display case.

Yep, someone was telling me that a bakery display is like an art gallery, and I agree, a feast for the eyes and the taste buds and stomach!

Thanks Joseph. It was fun conforming to the specified form. Coincidentally, I ate lunch across the street from my favorite bakery today, and won the battle of temptation and didn't go in, despite their two for one offering the last hour before they close at 3PM. :-)

I like this one. Very tempting. It would be nice to have a bakery that would have fresh just baked goods for sale. I like to go to Krispy Creme Donut shop in a near city and get a freshly bake or fried donut, but alas we don't do that one very much. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. Sara K

Thanks Sara. My old neighborhood had a lot of really good bakeries, but there's nothing great close to my house now. I miss that, but maybe it's a good thing. I might have an unhealthy relationship with baked goods :-)

Some bakeries are like an art gallery, but don't pick by looks. Pick the ones that are most memorable. I love this poem. Food is a good subject . I enjoy this feast of words.

I agree with you Hilda. I would have to say, "exactly", bakeries are like art galleries, and it seems like the bakers make them not only for taste, but how they appear to the eye. Ultimately, of course, I pick by taste. Usually, I try for something that is sweet, but just a little sweet. I'm getting hungry thinking about it.
