Notes About The Poem

During this holiday season let us not forget the people who are sick, lonely, or homeless; they need our kindness and love as well.

Bah Humbug

Bah! Humbug!  It’s that time of year;
I can’t understand the reason
why everyone is so full of cheer
just because it’s the Christmas season.

The traffic on the street is horrendous,
like a snail, moving at a slow crawl;
the shopping crowds tremendous,
no parking spaces at the mall.

The weather outside is terrible;
it is cold and dreary and bleak;
so cold it’s almost unbearable
leaving frostbite on my cheek.

Crowds everywhere looking at the sights;
the Christmas carols driving me insane.
And all those brightly colored lights
leave a glare on the road in this rain.

But I don’t even have to go outside
because I have no gifts to buy.
I can stay in my room and hide;
you see, no family or friends have I.

I love the build up to christmas in the month of December but it does get longer and longer every year with few Xmas bits in the shops as early as August in some cases (that I am not so keen on.) That's when I may Bah! Humbug! too lol. Enjoyed your poem John. Emilia : )

It will be Christmas before we know it but let's not rush it, time goes by fast enough as it is. Thanks for all your support, Emilia, I appreciate you. Hugs, John

Hi John! I absolutely love this poem. It is so funny (to me) and yet the ending hits you between the eyes. And, it rhymes! I love that. Good luck in the contest. You deserve to place for sure.

Thank you so much for your comments, Carole. I like your philosophy of writing poetry; most of mine are simple rhymes as well which are easily understood. I'm glad you enjoyed this one; I tried to keep it on the light side and yet make a point. John

Oh, my, I see you are using that "lonely" aspect of the Grinch as a show for a dislike of Xmas. I really like the way you approached this theme. I think this contest was a very nice idea. Mine is not posted yet, but when it's up, I hope you like it.

Andrea, I wanted to do something different which is why I chose Grinch, and since I enjoy the season so much I was trying to imagine why some don't which led me to the lonely aspect. I hope Kim likes this approach. I look forward to reading yours. John

Hi John, You have penned a good" Bag Humbug " write. Your rhymes and content were on point as well. In the midst of the season we must not forget the less fortunate. I wish you the best of luck in the contest :-) Alexis
