Background Melody
Heartbreak
is the background melody of our life.
Kissed with eyes closed tight
hands hold each other
but, when darkness gives way to sight
the hands are far apart.
He forgot how to hold on
somehow, he kept walking
then he found that she was gone.
From far behind she called,
her dreams still echoing his name,
the sky is crippled by the storm and
her heart burns with her shame.
All that she has lost
for following wherever he’d led
left her the casualty of his self destruction
bathed her in the reds.
The background melody,
fills all the space in the air
crashing into her lungs,
and no longer is she there.
