Backdrop of Summer

Summer's faded beach umbrellas
On shore of shimmering sea
Stand like bobbing sentinels
During sunburnt days
On warm, white sand.

Hot, sweaty summer's
Breeze of salt spray
Caresses our faces and limbs as
Afternoon sun relentlessly
Ignites the lachrymose air.

The fisherman in harbor
Touches the pier with
No storms sighted,
And prepares to haul in
The catch of the day.
