Notes About The Poem

R.J. Lindley,
April 15th, 1974
Dark Rhyme, (when found, darkest of dark, bluest of blues)

Note- Presented as originally composed-- no edits..
This was written while in the deepest darkest abyss, I've ever known.
One that took me six long years to climb out of (1980) ...

Back When Lost Love, Sent Its Deepest Sad Moans

Back When Lost Love, Sent Its Deepest Sad Moans

Once when life seemed to be a bitter waste
love had failed, left its first unsavory taste,
sky had fallen into a hard heartache blue
when misery had a name, its face was you!

Back when lost love, sent its deepest sad moans
Heartache and long nights echoed loudest groans

Every step taken showered deeper hurts
sorrows and woes grew in midnight spurts
moon laughed at this soul's feeble cries
hellish dark curses fell from black skies!

Back when lost love, sent its deepest sad moans.
Heartache and long nights echoed loudest groans.

Back when dawn's light woke a fallen fool
a malignant lump, a sad useless tool
sun sent down fire, in its angriest rays
those were cutting blades of torturing days!

Back when lost love, sent its deepest sad moans.
Heartache and long nights echoed loudest groans.

Back then, your sweet smile was lost to me
love had fled, life was as a fallen tree
nature complied and sent in its wasting decay
desires cried for you, yet darkness held its sway!

Back when lost love, sent its deepest sad moans.
Heartache and long nights echoed loudest groans.

Once when life seemed to be a bitter waste
love had failed, left its first unsavory taste,
sky had fallen into a hard heartache blue
when misery had a name, it face was you!

Back when lost love, sent its deepest sad moans.
Heartache and long nights echoed loudest groans.

Dear Robert, a very dark and captivating poem expressing the powerful forces of heartache's negative emotions and the depths of despair created by a lost love and the first bitter taste of a broken heart. The emotional imagery you create is intense and artistic, exposing a pain-filled, vulnerable and loveless state of being. A dynamic and dramatic poem of darkness that sparkles like an onyx gem. Superb poetry! Warmest wishes my wonderful friend.. ~Susan

Susan, thank you my dear friend. When one writes about real life, even real troubles one has lived through, the hardest part is just how much to expose to others. Or how to illustrate that recovery is possible even in the direst and most heartbroken and miserable of circumstances. To show that Time oft heals what Fate has delivered. That life indeed flows ever onward and happiness may yet find ones doorstep.

We do fail love when we are still unable to grasp its very core.. we suffer and dwell in pain when we don't find all the keys to the gates of Love, Beauty, Light.. we fall in darkness when we are still crawling on the path of wisdom and haven't caught the first spark of Light.. Indeed, when there is no Love there is no Life.. You have sown the seeds of your brilliant poetry for so many a year.. You are reaping the finest of beauty and the highest of ranks! A gem and a FAV. Shine and be blessed.

Thank you my dear friend. A poet must write about that which they both know and they feel. I was unlucky enough to have went through many troubling times in my wild youth... which makes for great fodder to write sad poetry to.

You have a quite deep treasure trove of very compelling poems gathered over the years. This, too, is a despairingly good write.

Thank you my friend. Sad but true, seems that my wild youth, was not a mild, gentle and easy ride..
